The Society of Off-Campus Students (SOCS) is a society that is accepting of all individuals regardless of age, race, ethnicity, gender identity, ability, family, academic, or financial status.  We aim to provide all students of the McMaster community with engaging SOCS programming that provides a variety of opportunities for students to become engaged and involved with their peers and the community. Our purpose is to create a supporting and welcoming community, making off-campus students feel at home through the organization.

Goals

Executive Transparency

Our SOCS executive team strives to be entirely transparent so that students have the ability to speak up on any concerns they have.  We aim to be a transparent service so that our society feels comfortable speaking to us and can place trust in the decisions we make. Diverse and Inclusive Community

It is important that as a society we provide diverse programming that is inclusive of all groups we have here on campus.  You can expect to see social gatherings open to all students throughout the year.  Such events and programming include the SOCS formal, acoustic nights, social nights, intramurals and much more.  If you feel that our programming doesn't speak to your interests please feel free to talk to any of our executive members about what you would like to see in the future.  Visit us during our office hours or contact us through any of the emails listed here.

Partner Collaborations

SOCS is always open to collaboration opportunities with various groups at McMaster.  Through collaboration with the Student Community Support Network (SCSN), Off-Campus Orientation Representatives (OCORs), and the Off-Campus Resource Centre (OCRC), we have had the opportunity to create a strong forefront to represent off-campus students within the McMaster community.

Off-Campus Advocacy

We will always be a voice for off-campus students in all years and are willing to take the necessary actions to professionally address any issues that may arise.

Information Accessibility

SOCS related events, issues and other programming will be regularly updated and available on this website, social media outlets, through our newsletter and in person during scheduled office hours.  If our office hours do not work with your schedule, we encourage you to reach out to us so that we can work together to find a time that suits you.
